That wouldn't be a terrible career choice. People always need a good construction worker.
[And he could make tons of money with speedy builds. He plucks the donut out of the air.]
I would miss the job, there is no doubt about that. It's been part of my life so so long, that it is going to be strange to give it up. I've seen this place through a lot of rough times.
Yeah... You were the guardian when I was here the first time.
[She remembers. And there are suggestions she'd like to make, but it would be way too presumptuous considering she's not the guardian, and she really doesn't expect to win this next election. In a way, she's almost hoping she doesn't, she wants him to have his term of closure.]
I'm sure whoever wins next term would be happy to let you help out, either as a deputy, or a consultant, or a secret crimefighting superhero... It won't be the end if you don't want it to be, Haller-san.
With this hair, I don't know how much of a secret It'd be. [He's pretty sure that anyone that knows him would recognize him at first glance.]
Speaking of both deputies and next term..I know what you want to shadow me and that you have been to the other Guardians, but every city is different with its own personality. Running one city doesn't always mean you can apply those skills to the other.
[But that's not totally what this is about.]
But I did have the idea that maybe instead of giving you a day of shadowing, how about six months? That is, if you would find being a Deputy Guardian an enticing role for the moment. I think I could teach you far more in that time frame than in a single day or a few weeks.
[She wishes she'd been drinking something so she could have spit it out for extra comedic effect. Orihime stares in silent shock for several moments.]
...............Really?
[A deputy guardian?! He's offering that to her?]
REALLY?!
[She stands up fast, almost fast enough to tip over her chair. No one loves training more than Orihime (debatably), and the thought of being a guardian, and protecting people, and being a superhero sidekick...!]
I'd be honored! Really honestly honored! Yes, please!
[Well..he certainly hadn't been expecting that reaction. He thought she might have to think about it or say she needs to give it some thought, but here she just outright accepted. Not that that's a bad thing. She seems like she actually wants to help this place and its people, so its always good to have people eager for that.
He gives a little chuckle, though.]
And I would be happy to have you aboard. I'd have offered sooner if I knew you were interested.
Honestly... I didn't know I was interested until I saw the announcements. And I knew I needed to try.
[She holds her hands in front of her, awkwardly rubbing one thumb over the other. Orihime looks down at the desk for a long moment before looking up again with a sheepish smile.]
I didn't even look to see who else was running before I submitted my nomination. Then I saw you wanted this to be your last term to wrap up some projects, and I felt kind of bad about it. I'm glad I can help with those projects now. They're really good ideas!
